Cienfuegos

The property market in Cienfuegos: the Pearl of the South

A World Heritage neoclassical centre, a bay and Punta Gorda: one of the most pleasant urban markets outside Havana.

Cienfuegos is a city founded in the nineteenth century, with a grid layout, wide streets and a very consistent neoclassical architecture. Its historic centre is a World Heritage site and one of the best-ordered and most pleasant urban cores to live in anywhere in the country.

Punta Gorda, the peninsula reaching into the bay, holds the most upmarket houses: eclectic and mid-twentieth-century homes facing the water, with the highest price bracket in the province and steady tourist demand.

Beyond those two poles, the city has residential neighbourhoods and later blocks of flats at moderate prices. The province adds Rancho Luna as a beach market and inland towns — Cumanayagua, Cruces, Palmira — with simple, affordable housing.

The bay also has an industrial side that weighs on valuations: some areas close to factories and power facilities are not priced like the centre or Punta Gorda, even when they are only minutes away.
