Ciego de Ávila
The property market in Ciego de Ávila: the city, Morón and the cays
A flat, farming province whose market is split between the city of porticoes and Morón, the gateway to the northern cays.
Ciego de Ávila is a flat, agricultural province of relatively young towns. Its capital, known as the city of porticoes, has a centre of arcaded houses and later residential neighbourhoods, with a quiet urban market and moderate prices.
Tourism on the northern cays, Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, defines the province’s second market. There is no residential market on the cays open to private buyers; demand moves to the mainland, above all to Morón, where many hotel workers live.
That gives Morón a somewhat busier market than its size would suggest, with purchase and rental demand tied to tourism jobs. Chambas, Florencia, Venezuela and Baraguá complete a rural market of simple housing.
The province is one of the cheapest in central Cuba. For anyone who does not depend on Havana, it is a place where a spacious home with a yard is within reach of modest budgets.
