Sancti Spíritus
The property market in Sancti Spíritus: Trinidad and the capital
Two markets in one province: Trinidad, with the most intense tourist demand in central Cuba, and a quiet, affordable colonial capital.
Sancti Spíritus has two markets that barely touch. The first is Trinidad: one of the best-preserved colonial towns in the Americas, listed as a World Heritage site together with the Valley of the Sugar Mills, and one of the most visited destinations in Cuba.
In Trinidad almost everything revolves around renting. Houses in the historic centre, with tiled roofs, timber window grilles and inner courtyards, are valued for their capacity to host tourists, and prices sit far above the rest of the province. Casilda and La Boca, on the way to Playa Ancón, share part of that demand.
The second market is the capital, Sancti Spíritus, one of the first seven towns founded on the island. It has a quiet colonial centre by the Yayabo river, later neighbourhoods and contained prices, with mostly local demand.
The interior — Cabaiguán, Jatibonico, Fomento, Yaguajay — is a farming market of family homes and low prices, where sales are almost always closed between people who know each other.
